What Is Unemployment Insurance?
Unemployment insurance (UI) provides temporary weekly cash benefits when you lose your job through no fault of your own. Benefits are typically 40–50% of your prior weekly wage, up to a state-set maximum. Most states provide up to 26 weeks of benefits.
You must actively search for work each week and certify your job search to continue receiving benefits. States may have a one-week waiting period before your first payment.
