How to Use This Directory
Every state administers federal programs (SNAP, Medicaid, Section 8) through its own agencies, plus operates entirely state-funded programs. This directory points you to the right starting point for each state. For the most current contact information, always call 211 in your state — their information is updated in real time.
Finding Your State's Agencies
The fastest approach for any state: (1) Call 211 in your state for immediate referral to any local agency; (2) Go to benefits.gov and enter your state for federal program contacts; (3) Search "[your state] department of social services" or "[your state] health and human services" for the state-level agency; (4) For housing: hud.gov/program_offices/public_indian_housing/pha/contacts for your PHA; (5) For energy: acf.hhs.gov/ocs/programs/liheap/grantees for your LIHEAP agency.
