Identity Documents
For the SNAP applicant: government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, or Tribal ID card). Alternative if no photo ID: two documents that together confirm identity (birth certificate + utility bill, or similar).
Household Members
For all household members: names and Social Security numbers (or proof of application for SSN); birth certificates for children under 18; documentation of citizenship or immigration status for non-citizens.
Income Documentation
For all household members with income: employed — last 30 days of pay stubs (most recent 2–4 stubs); self-employed — most recent tax return (Schedule C); Social Security/SSI — current award letter or recent bank statement showing deposit; TANF — current award letter; unemployment — determination letter or payment history; pension/retirement — award letter; no income — signed statement certifying zero income.
Allowable Expenses
To claim deductions that reduce your countable income and increase benefits: utility bills (electric, gas, water, phone — or use the state's standard utility deduction); rent or mortgage statement; childcare receipts (for working parents); medical expense receipts (for elderly or disabled household members).
Residency
Proof you live at your current address: lease agreement, utility bill, bank statement, or any government mail at your address. If no permanent address (homeless): shelter letter, or statement from a social service agency or person you stay with.
